Trevor Murdoch Calls NWA World Tag Titles a Career 'Resurgence'

Trevor Murdoch says winning NWA tag gold brought a “resurgence” for him.

Trevor Murdoch is no stranger to National Wrestling Alliance gold.

A noted two-time NWA World’s champion, Murdoch currently holds half of the NWA World Tag Team titles. Of the victory earlier this year with partner Mike Knox, he says: “It brings joy to my heart but also a resurgence in me.”

It's a new lease on life for the world-traveled ring veteran, whose career began 25 years ago in newly-minted official NWA territory NWA World League Wrestling. He soon shot to global fame, becoming a World tag team champion for the first time in 2005.

“For the longest time in my career, I was known as a tag team specialist with Lance Cade,” explains Murdoch.

“With Lance, I was able to capture three WWE World tag team titles,” he continues. “At this point in my career, to do it again — and not just ‘do it again’ but to do it with a guy like Mike Knox — I don’t know how to express it, to be honest.”

After starting as bitter rivals during Murdoch’s first reign as NWA World’s champion, the Missouri native forged a formidable partnership with Knox in late 2022. Together they won the 2023 Crockett Cup Tournament. However, the World tag titles eluded them.

“We knew this wasn’t going to be an easy road,” says Murdoch of the 18 months chasing NWA World Tag champs Blunt Force Trauma. “There are a lot of very good, very talented tag teams in the business now.

Knox & Murdoch finally up-ended Aron Stevens’ masked menaces at the NWA’s Back to the Territories event in June. They successfully defended the belts against 2024 Crockett Cup winners The Southern Six (Kerry Morton and Alex Taylor) at NWA 76.

“To be a champion in the NWA, I carry pride for that like none other,” Murdoch states. “To be the NWA World Tag Team Champions, that means something special.”

According to Murdoch, the title victory rejuvenated something in him he might not have even known needed it. Now Knox & Murdoch are more determined than ever to hold onto the belts.

“It’s time for everybody in the NWA to step the [expletive] up! If you want these belts, you’re going to have to beat me life to limb to take them,” he barks.

“Mike and I have no intention of losing these belts for a very long time,” Murdoch promises, offering a “beating like no other” for any team which challenges for the gold.

“We need to remind you, and let everyone know,” the tag champ concludes. “Next time you step into the ring with Knox and Murdoch, you will not come out the same!”
