Alex Taylor Talks Junior Heavyweight Non-Title Match Tues. on 'NWA Powerrr'
“Name somebody in the National Wrestling Alliance who had a better 2024 than Alex Taylor — I’ll wait!”
It’s hard to argue with the always-assured NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion. Since winning the title, Taylor has indeed been (to use his own words) “too hot to trot.”
“There hasn’t been a hotter junior heavyweight in the world for almost a year,” states the brash member of The Southern Six.
“First, Kerry Morton and I shocked the world and won the Crockett Cup,” he brags. “Then, a month later, I turned around and became NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion! Damn, baby! I am just too good!”
Even before joining forces with Morton and “The Thrillbilly” Silas Mason, Taylor was churning out memorable moments (who can forget his anxiety-inducing, viral ladder spot from NWA 74?!) and great matches. However, forming The Southern Six instantly cemented him as a National Wrestling Alliance star.
“Alex Taylor has always been a star, brother!” he gloats. “All I needed was the chance to prove it!”
For Taylor, that opportunity arrived on June 28, 2024. At an NWA Chicago live event, he etched his name beside former NWA World Junior Heavyweight champions like Danny Hodge, Verne Gagne, and Jushin “Thunder” Liger. He joins Homicide, Colby Corino, and Southern Six partner Kerry Morton among the five champions during NWA’s Lightning One Era.
“And just like that, daddy,” Taylor said, snapping his fingers. “I became the standard by which every junior heavyweight in the world is judged!”
This Tuesday on an all-new NWA Powerrr, rising star Hunter has the opportunity to prove himself against the champion. The NWA-Kross Fire Wrestling standout faces Taylor in non-title action.
“That kid’s got a lot of talent — and a lot of guts, if he’s stepping into the ring with me — but what he doesn’t have is common sense if he expects to make a name for himself at my expense,” the champ says.
“Hunter’s won some big matches in NWA-KFW, which is great because our territory system is the best in professional wrestling today,” Taylor continues.
“But NWA Powerrr is the big leagues of the National Wrestling Alliance,” he concludes. “There’s no way in hell he’s going to beat the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion in front of a global audience!”
New episodes of NWA Powerrr stream every Tuesday at 6:05 PM EST. They are available worldwide on NWA’s X (formerly Twitter) account.
