National Champ ‘Big Strong’ Mims Defends Against Mike Mondo at 'NWA SHOCKWAVE'
It’s gut check time for Mike Mondo!
Only days after making his NWA Powerrr debut, the veteran grappler gets his first shot at National Wrestling Alliance gold. Mondo faces “Big Strong” Mims with BLK Jeez for the National title at NWA SHOCKWAVE.
“I’ve been training my ass off,” said Mondo via X (formerly Twitter). “I have the biggest match of my career as I compete for the National Championship.”
On Jan. 11, Mondo heads to the Dallas-Fort Worth Area to challenge for the title Mims captured at NWA 76. The monumental collision falls on the eve of the National title’s 1980 inception.
During his reign, Mims has already faced 25-year-veteran Burchill and NWA newcomer Mr. Grimm among others. Mondo presents the latest threat to “The Big Strong One,” who manager BLK Jeez asserts is en route to becoming one of the most dominant National champions in history.
“Mims is a savage!” Jeez states. “From this point on, whenever you think or talk about the National Championship, you will respectfully mention the name of ‘Big Strong’ Mims. He’s unstoppable, bruh!”
A former WWE tag team champion and multiple-time champion in Ohio Valley Wrestling, Mondo could be Mims’ biggest challenge to date. The stakes are high, as whichever competitor wins in Forney, TX, carries the legendary title into its historic 45th year.
This is only the latest match scheduled for NWA SHOCKWAVE. Previously announced is the opening round of a tournament to crown a new No. 1 contender to champion Thom Latimer’s NWA World’s Heavyweight title.
Also on the card, NWA World Television Champion Carson Drake defends against Alex Misery. Kenzie Paige, who recently celebrated 500 days as NWA Women’s World Champion, teams with NWA Women’s TV champ Big Mama to take on Texas favorites CJ and Mystii Marks. Knox & Murdoch put the World Tag titles up against The SlimeBallz.
