“My career spans generations, and I have never seen a more talented, determined group of women,” states Madusa Miceli.
“They continue to impress me every time they step in the ring,” the Hall-of-Famer and NWA agent goes on to say, “And every woman on this roster has what it takes to be a champion.”
Indeed, the NWA Women’s locker room is teeming with talents of various ages, experience levels and backgrounds. Each brings something unique to the ring, making all credible threats to any of the NWA’s current champions.
Kamille has been an incredibly dominant World Champion, but eventually somebody has to be the one to take the belt off of her,” says Jazz of the NWA’s self-appointed “One-Time Champ.”
Since winning the belt over two years ago, “The Brickhouse” has rebuffed Taya Valkyrie, La Rosa Negra, Max the Impaler, Angelina Love, Chelsea Green and many other top stars. At The Crockett Cup, she retained amidst a game effort by “The Crush” Natalia Markova.
Holding the title for well over 700 days is impressive, admits Jazz. She knows first-hand the ardors of being NWA Women’s World Champion, holding the belt an astonishing 948 days (2016-2019) before relinquishing it due to injury.
“The longer you hold onto a championship though,” continued “The Female Fighting Phenom,” “The more determined opponents are to take it. I can see how hungry these ladies are to be the one to end Kamille’s reign.”
Markova currently remains atop the list of challengers.“The Crush” seeks to rectify her recent loss to Kamille, as they again meet on pay-per-view at NWA 75 Night 1 in St. Louis.
“Natalia Markova has come so close to defeating Kamille several times,” notes NWA commentator Velvet Sky.
“Every time these two step into the ring, Natalia better understands Kamille, I think,” Sky continues. “She knows this could be her last shot, so she is going to pull out all the stops Aug. 26, at NWA 75, to become the new NWA Women’s World champion!”
Kamille isn’t the only NWA champion with a target on her back however. As the first-ever NWA Women’s Television Champion, Kenzie Paige is also a wanted woman. Just last issue, in fact, we speculated Paige might soon fall under attack by her own Pretty Empowered teammates. They are far from the only ones who might have an eye on the prize!
NWA upstart Ruthie Jay wowed on Night 1 of Crockett Cup, earning a shot at the TV champ. Though she didn’t win the strap, Ruthie’s disqualification victory over Paige the following night almost guarantees a return match.
Equally impressive at Crockett was Samantha Starr, the last remaining in an outstanding Women’s Hardcore Team Warfare match. Many speculate, were she not injured in the weapons-laden affair, Starr rather than Jay might have faced Paige. Assuredly a showdown between the two looms ahead, says Starr’s mother and NWA legend Baby Doll.
“At Crockett Cup, Samantha proved a point to anyone who thinks she is only in the National Wrestling Alliance because of her family,” said “The Perfect 10.”
“Samantha is her own woman,” continued Baby Doll, who has guided greats like Tully Blanchard, Ric Flair and Larry Zybyszko to championship gold. “She’s determined to make her own name in the NWA, and Kenzie Paige is going to find out exactly how focused she is on becoming the Women’s TV champion!”
More than just Starr and Jay are clamoring for a shot at Paige.Naturally, it seems evident Max the Impaler deserves a rematch as well. “The Warlord of the Wasteland,” before teaming with Judais in an historic Crockett Cup first, utterly dominated the champ in the TV title tournament finals.
It was only through ample Pretty Empowered shenanigans Paige emerged with the belt. Many wonder if these two might clash again at NWA 75, but only time with tell!
Of course, competition is also lining up for NWA Women’s World Tag Team Champs M95. For many, Missa Kate and Madi came out of virtually nowhere to unseat Pretty Empowered 2.0 for the tag title — but have since turned away all comers.
After NWA 312 , M95 defeated one of the hottest teams on the Indies. The world-traveled RaeLyn and Heather Monroe — The Hollywood Blondes — gave the champs a stiff challenge, but fell short of taking the belts.
“It seemed like nobody thought we could beat them,” Madi said of The Blondes, “But… guess what? They’re still Side Characters — and we’re still champs!”
“We hope NWA keeps bringing in teams like Heather and RaeLyn, because we need real contenders,” chimed in Missa Kate. “Madi and I here to show everyone why we’re the best women’s tag team in the world!”
The champs make a point. M95 has fended off duos like former champs Pretty Empowered, the game duo of La Rosa Negra and LaBrava Escobar (Las Rosas Bravas — The Brave Roses?) and more. It’s unknown who will step up next, but the tag champs are anxiously awaiting.
Beyond the faces seen most often on broadcasts, new and exciting talent show up month after month looking for opportunities in NWA’s stacked women’s division. In every city National Wrestling Alliance visits, competitors come knocking to challenge the best in the business.
“Every woman, everywhere is looking to compete for these legendary NWA championships — against the best women in the business,” says Miceli. “They know all it takes is one 3-count to etch their name in history forever.”
“There’s no place quite like the NWA to prove yourself,” agrees Jazz. “Our women are among the absolute best in the world — and they prove it every time they step in the ring.”
