Colby Corino: “I Have Unfinished Business With NWA!”
“It was inevitable I’d come home,” says Colby Corino. “I am back to finish what I started in the National Wrestling Alliance!”
The second-generation superstar made that “unfinished business” clear in a triumphant and unexpected return at The Crockett Cup. Besting five others, he became No. 1 contender to Kerry Morton’s World Junior Heavyweight title.
“I’ve already beaten Colby so many times I lost track —and I ran him out of NWA once,” the unfazed champ quips, “What would make this time any different?”
It’s true, the landscape of NWA has changed dramatically in the six months since Corino departed. Morton’s defended the belt around the world and adopted a new, more aggressive style and attitude.
It’s obvious Corino has changed too. This doesn’t feel like the same, entitled son of former NWA World’s Heavyweight Champion Steve Corino. With a title match set for NWA 75 the weekend of Aug. 26-27 in St. Louis, Colby appears ready to pursue the gold on his own merits.
“Yes, I come from a great gene pool,” Corino admits, “But when I beat Kerry Morton for the World Junior Heavyweight title at NWA 75, I’m going to do it on my own — and earn my place in NWA history.”
