From the Desk of . . . Crockett Cup 2023: Dreams Come True
In 1988, the National Wrestling Alliance played on an excessively large television in my family’s living room. On a word processor, I transcribed quotes from teams competing in that year’s Crockett Cup.
At a very young age, I dreamed to someday report on NWA’s historic tag team tournament as a journalist for a pro wrestling magazine. While it took far longer than imagined, and NWA and I both went throughcountless changes in the interim, this year that dream became a reality.
I not only experienced the 2023 NWA Crockett Cup live in Winston-Salem, NC. Now I have the privilege of covering it here, for our own epublication NWA Official Wrestling..
Let me assure you, it was well worth the wait! This year’s Crockett Cup featured the requisite shocking moments, bracket-busting victories andsurprise appearances to earn its place as one of NWA’s flagship events.
Our NWA Official Wrestling cover story showcases 2023 winners Trevor Murdoch and Mike Knox. For these former rivals, the event was undoubtedly a dream-come-true as well.
MurKnox, as we’ve chosen to coin this super-duo, overcame three other teams from a field of 26 to claim the coveted Cup. Together they etched their name in history. Now they are forever canonized alongside the greats.
They join The Road Warriors, “The Super Powers” Dusty Rhodes & Nikita Koloff, Sting & Lex Luger, Villain Enterprises and The Briscoe Brothers in victory. This month we look ahead for the pair.
Elsewhere in this issue, our team takes a look at additional fallout from The Crockett Cup. Whether a jaw-dropping twist from iconic Ricky Morton to the legendary Vampiro leading NWA World Tag Teamchampions La Rebelión into battle, there’s plenty to unpack en route to our jaw-dropping August 26-27 return to St. Louis for NWA 75!
With that in mind, let’s waste no more time. Welcome to another installment of NWA Official Wrestling!
Warmest Regards,
