VIEW FROM THE FRONT ROW: Who — If Anybody — Can Dethrone Kamille?
By NWA Super Fan Polka Dot Pam
It’s the question on the lips of the #NWAFam! As Kamille surpasses 700 days as NWA Women’s World Champion, fans and critics alike are asking who can defeat “The Brickhouse”? Can anyone?!
Kamille debuted at NWA’s 70th Anniversary show in 2018. Nick Aldis promised an “insurance policy” against outside interference in his title match with Cody, and it was Kamille’s job to offset Brandi Rhodes. She continued as Aldis’s silent-but-deadly sidekick throughout 2019, ultimately speaking and making her in-ring debut — much to the delight of the #NWAFam— in May 2020.
Kamille’s first showing of true dominance came against former NWA Women’s World Champion Thunder Rosa. “The Brickhouse” crushed Rosa’s dream of reclaiming the Burke to become No. 1 contender to the title. On June 6, 2021, at When Our Shadows Fall, Kamille defeated “The Professor of Professional Wrestling” Serena Deeb in a hard-fought, emotional battle to claim the NWA’s Women’s World Championship.
Over the almost two years since, Kamille has defeated a pro wrestling “Who’s Who” to retain the Burke. Most notably she’s gone to war with Chelsea Green, Melina, Taryn Terrell, KiLynn King and Taya Valkyrie, continuously winning “Match of the Night” accolades with every successful defense.
This path of devastation led to the champ adopting the slogan “One Time.” Kamille defiantly asserts she’s a “One Time” champ — and ain’t nobody taking that belt off her.
Kamille’s most recent title defense was perhaps her most difficult yet. At NWA 312, La Rosa Negra came as close as anyone ever has to dethroning the champ.
Rosa’s quickness and agility proved a great counter to Kamille’s powerhouse style. On a number of occasions it looked like Kamille might be handing over the Burke to “The Black Rose,” a rapidly rising NWA fan favorite. In the end, though, Kamille remains our One Time champ.
So that begs the question: Who can defeat Kamille to become NWA Women’s World Champion?
Might it be “The Crush” Natalia Markova, who slays with a smile and recently went to a time-limit draw with the champ on NWA Powerrr? Will it be the hulking Max the Impaler? Though they came up short after winning the Burke Invitational at NWA 75, Max proved to be perhaps the only individual who can match Kamille’s size and strength. Could it yet be La Rosa Negra, who came so close and will surely earn a rematch?
The possible opponents seem endless. The NWA Women’s Division is top tier, and new talent eager to try their hand at ending Kamille’s historic reign emerge at every tour stop.
I’ll keep my money on Kamille for another 700 days. She’s un-F’n-beatable.
