View from the Front Row: The ‘Thrill Ride’ Is Over for Silas & Pollo
By NWA Super Fan Polka-Dot Pam
I’m a sucker for a good love story — but can’t say I was expecting one when “Thrillbilly” Silas Mason and Pollo Del Mar debuted in National Wrestling Alliance last summer.
That night in Knoxville, TN, “The Thrillbilly” said he wanted “the prettiest woman he’d ever seen” by his side at all times. To some, they were an odd couple – Silas with his mullet and mouth full of dip; Pollo with sparkly leotard and mile-high glitter boots. But opposites attract, and the way she carried his spit cup spelled true love.
That love touched many hearts within the #NWAFam, including mine. When Silas’ debut against Luke Hawx didn’t go his way, Pollo was there to pick him up, dust him off, and prep him for a bright future in NWA — and bright it’s been!
Over the past year, with Pollo by Silas’ side, some of the NWA’s toughest have gone for a “Thrill Ride.” Under Ms. Del Mar’s management, lock-ups with Judais, Dak Draper, and Future NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Chris Adonis put “Thrillbilly” in main event conversations — his eyes on the NWA National title.
After winning the Bob Luce Memorial Battle Royale at NWA 312 in Chicago, “Thrillbilly” got his title shot at NWA Crockett Cup. Ahead of that challenge, National Champion EC3 told “Thrillbilly” face-to-face: “Women weaken knees, women poison minds, and she will break your heart.”
It certainly disgusted every woman watching, and trying to plant seeds of doubt in Silas was, indeed, the act of a Durn Dirty No-Gooder. Did I think it would work? Not a chance.
This love was too true — and Silas earned his title shot by literally standing on the back of Pollo, who’d been there every step of his NWA career. But then I had a “View from the Front Row” at Crockett Cup, Night One when the unthinkable happened!
Nearing the end of a hard-fought match, Pollo climbed to the ring apron to prevent EC3 attacking her man with the National title. The champ ducked a kick from “Thrillbilly,” which connected with Pollo, sending her flying from the apron into ringside chairs and the steel stage steps.
A quick pin allowed EC3 to retain, crushing Thrillbilly’s title dreams as the love of his life lay brutally injured by his own foot. His distress was obvious, but it’s what he did next that was so upsetting.
That man stepped over the lady he supposedly loved and walked to the back, leaving her to drag herself from the floor and run after him. Silas says he has “that dog in him,” and he’s right. That was definitely a bitch move!
The great Tammy Wynette sang “Stand By Your Man,” but my advice to Ms. Del Mar is simple. Move on and find a new man — one who is worthy of her love and devotion.
