How Long Before ‘La Princesa’ Becomes Queen of the NWA Women’s Division?
Tiffany Nieves arrived in the National Wrestling Alliance with quite a pedigree. Now ‘La Princesa' is determined to make NWA her own.
“‘La Princesa’ is putting these perras on notice,” an always-confident Nieves tells NWA Official Wrestling.
“I’m not here to make friends. I’m not here to be popular. I’m here to
be La Campeona!” she continued, “And there’s nobody in the National Wrestling Alliance who can stop ‘La Princesa’!”
Nieves poses an instant threat to an already stacked division, states NWA legend Jazz. A former Women’s World Champion in her own right, she sees big things ahead for the Puerto Rican prodigy.
“Tiffany hasn’t been wrestling long, but she has already proven to be very impressive,” says Jazz.
Holding championships across the United States, Nieves landed in NWA motivated to make an international reputation for herself at the expense of anyone holding the gold. In Jazz’s opinion, it could be only a matter of time before she does.
“This is a young lady who is definitely mature beyond her years in the ring,” Jazz says of Nieves, “And there doesn’t appear to be anyone more focused or willing to do what it takes to be victorious.”
Nieves is champion in Texas-based Mission Pro, run by former NWA Women’s World champion Thunder Rosa. She’s also held Ohio Valley Wrestling gold.
Intense competition in both promotions has prepared “La Princesa” for NWA, where top-notch action has made the women a cornerstone of the company. She entered as an immediate contender to Women’s World Champion Kenzie Paige.
“Tiffany and Kenzie match up exceptionally well in both size and experience,” acknowledges Joe Galli. “I think everyone sees the strong potential Tiffany might be the one to unseat the champion.”
“That’s ridiculous!” says Galli’s broadcast colleague Danny Dealz. Paige already successfully defended against Nieves once, he is quick to point out.
The former manager is correct, as Paige retained her title when the two faced off at NWA Paranoia. However, as an unabashed supporter of the Paige-led faction Pretty Empowered, he is far less willing to discuss the dubious outcome.
After a back-and-forth battle, the champion sprayed what appeared to be hairspray in her opponent’s eyes to gain victory. Dealz immediately brushes that fact aside.
“That is just people making excuses for Tiffany Nieves coming up short against Kenzie,” he says. “The fact is, ‘La Princesa’ got outsmarted by The Queen — pure and simple!”
Galli disagrees. The cheating was a determining factor in the outcome, he says, and could eventually heighten the confrontation’s intensity.
“In many ways, I think Tiffany and Kenzie are two sides of the same coin in terms of personality,” NWA’s senior broadcaster states.
“While The Burke is the catalyst, I feel these are two women extremely accustomed to getting their way no matter the cost,” Galli continues. “This rivalry could become extremely personal, extremely fast!”
Jazz says future matches between the women might indeed be highly combustible. Referring to both as “Alpha Females,” she suggests Paige and Nieves could view each other as not only professional but personal threats.
“These ladies are each obviously confident in their abilities, and want to prove that, but I think it could go deeper,” she opines.
“Yes, these wrestlers are insistent on being the face of the women’s division,” Jazz concludes, “But they are also determined to be the very top of NWA — and each could see the other as the only person standing in their way!”
